Overview
The Kelly Fitzpatrick Center for the Arts (“The Kelly”) collects local and regional visual art of relevant works of American art as part of its mission to serve artists and the public at large.
Not all artworks will be on view at all times, since we rest artworks in accordance to preservation standards. However, if you wish to view a particular piece in person, we are more than happy to schedule a viewing for you.
Dixie Art Colony Collection
The Kelly Fitzpatrick Center for the Arts was created in honor of John Kelly Fitzpatrick and his legacy of inspiring, educating, and promoting Southeastern artists. The Kelly thus aims to continue and preserve that legacy. The Kelly identifies its primary period of significance for its collection of local art histories as the times immediately before, during, and continuing after the Dixie Art Colony, approximately 1930’s to 1950’s. Objects created by John Kelly Fitzpatrick and his fellow artists, students, and friends are artworks/objects with significant ties to the regional art communities and deserve collection, preservation, interpretation, and public display.
Notable Regional Artists Collection
To continue Kelly’s legacy of educating and promoting Southeastern artists, The Kelly maintains a goal to collect from notable regional artists, both contemporary and historic. These are defined as artists who have had a significant impact on the local, regional, and/or Southeastern art communities, whether it be from their involvement as founders, leaders, or otherwise celebrated members in noteworthy art communities/organizations or from having such artistic success to gain fame among the Southeast or even nation at large.
