The Kelly is honored to collaborate with The Air University Academic Services to host the second annual “Art of Service” art show in 2025. This year, local artists reflect on the Air Force’s new tagline; “Innovate, Accelerate, and Thrive”. Within brush strokes and camera lens, artists emphasize life within the Air Force through Air Force technologies (“innovate”), aircraft (“accelerate”), and service members and their families (“thrive”).
This exhibition is held at the Air University Library's Muir S. Fairchild Research Information Center on Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.
Jim Stovall is a US military veteran and a skilled illustrator with a passion for realism and precision. From an early age, he honed his ability to capture detailed drawings. His military background includes roles in aircraft maintenance, as a B-52H tail gunner, and as a U.S. Navy submarine sonarman—one of the few to qualify in both fields. In 1979, he founded Eagle Illustrations to create high-quality military artwork, specializing in graphite drawings that require months of meticulous work. Recently, he has revisited painting but remains focused on graphite as his primary medium. His work reflects discipline, precision, and deep respect for military service, preserving its history through highly detailed, historically accurate illustrations.
His body of work can be found at the Air University library’s Archives and Special Collections at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery AL.
