Fiction has long allowed us to express complex emotions and ideas through entertaining stories. In times past\, the seasons changed because Persephone was kidnapped by Hades; the seas claimed sailor lives because of mermaid songs; and the Anglo-Saxons were defeated because the destined King Arthur drew Excalibur.
